Keyless Car – The Danger of keyless entry

The Inconvenience of the Convenient Keyless Entry

The advancement of technology has been an amazing sight to see unfold. The past ten years have transformed cell phones forever and let’s not even get started on how far computers, TVs and video games have come. While all of these things have helped to bring great joy in the lives of everyday people, sometimes the advancement of technology can bring about some unforeseen misfortunes.

One of those advancements is the keyless entry feature on today’s cars. While incredibly convenient, this luxury can backfire on you in an instant if you’re not careful.

What is keyless entry?

Some of you might be thinking, what is keyless entry and keyless car?

Keyless entry refers to a lock that uses an electronic remote control as a key which is activated by a handheld device or automatically by proximity. This means that from a few yards away, you can unlock or lock the doors to your car by pressing a button.

In some cases, you don’t have to press anything, just merely walking away will lock the doors to your car and approaching your car will unlock it; provided you have your fob on you. Your fob is the electronic key that allows all of this magic to happen.

Keyless go – High End Convenience

keyless carMercedes’ keyless go feature is one of the best examples of the keyless entry feature.

As long as the driver has their electronic key (fob) in their pocket, book bag or purse all that person needs to do is grip the door handle.

This would be sufficient to open and lock the doors as well as start the car! As the driver gets within the vicinity of the car, the electronic key will begin to communicate with the vehicle via antennae in the doors, tank trim and bumper.

Keyless car – Technology Backfired

You’re probably thinking that there is no possible way that something bad can come from all of that good, well thieves have found a way. The very technology that provides convenience to the user and their keyless car, also provides headache. These features are made to prevent the driver from ever locking their key in the car.

keyless carAs stated earlier if you keep your key on you in some form or fashion, you’re okay. If you’re the type to toss your keys in the cup holder or in the passenger seat, you might forget to grab them when you go to exit the car. Thieves nowadays are smart enough to know that conventional methods of stealing your car are unnecessary if they can spot your key from the window.

Features like this and other electronic keys are a great show of progress and ingenuity. Had you asked someone a few years ago if they’d be able to unlock and start their car without ever inserting a key, they would probably laugh at you. Well, it’s here and it’s amazing, but don’t let this modern day convenience bring about some old fashioned misfortune. Be aware and keep your key on you, or someone else will be commandeering your car, hands free.
